Miley Cyrus Breaks Out The Booty Shorts And…Stripper Pole(!?) For Teen Choice Awards Performance

Miley Cyrus Breaks Out The Booty Shorts And…Stripper Pole(!?) For Teen Choice Awards Performance

Miley Cyrus’s pole-dancing moment at the Teen Choice Awards went unseen by the television audience, with Fox cutting away from the Disney princess’s unmistakable stripper move (atop a prop ice-cream cart while singing “Party in the U.S.A.”) and focusing on a close-up instead.

That is so rock-n-roll.

It was a questionable night for the 16-year-old Cyrus, who appeared on the red carpet in what could pass for a real classy streetwalker’s uniform, and later introduced “my hero” Britney Spears’ special award wearing a cut-to-down-to-here blouse, no bra and tiny miniskirt. (At least Britney was legal when she started parading around in sheer bodysuits and snakes.) Her performance outfit consisted of black hot pants, a barely-there tank top and a sheer black bra. Following her performance, she thanked her fans and “God my father, for putting me on the stage tonight.” So that’s who we have to blame!

Now, with those short shorts, boots and moves, Cyrus did stake her claim as the next Britney, which is why I openly wonder how far she’s going to take this over the next 10 years? Moreover, as Miley’s seen as teen influencer, what does this say for the trend in the overall habits of teenage women today? Have we so desensitized sex that we should expect to see teen women taking pole dancing courses as a substitute for physical ed? And if that’s the case, are we preping them for future employment as strippers?

What’s going on here?

I feel like I’m walking a tightrope between being a schoolmarm who wants to take the spiked punchbowl away and a modern member of our media-driven society who likes that someone like Miley keeps pushing the edges of taste and sensibility. But to what degree and when does it stop? The whole hyper exposure movement has placed extreme pressure on our culture’s ability to accept and reject sexually suggestive actions such that we have Miley doing things on camera before millions that she would have gotten kicked out of school for doing before a small class of people at a dance-off.

Does that make any sense at all?

First Lady Makes Best Dressed List, Angelina Does Not !!!

Michelle Obama

Mariah Claims She’s Not Dressed Up as Eminem in Her Video ‘Obsessed’!!! Do You Believe Her?

Mariah Claims She’s Not Dressed Up as Eminem in Her Video ‘Obsessed’!!! Do You Believe Her?

As far as Mariah Carey is concerned, the feud with Eminem is coming to a close. She’s denying speculation that the character (a stalker) she dressed up as in her latest music video for the song ‘Obsessed,’ is him.

Mariah Carey

“I’m like, look, when I look at that stalker and me with the beard and the whole 9 yards, I look like my cousin Chris. I do. I look like my brother and my cousin Chris. So basically, you know, all the speculation about who I’m playing in the video, it’s not accurate.”

I don’t know…the resemblance is pretty uncanny, right?

The whole dressing as a guy for the video was actually Nick Cannon’s brainchild.

Well, I live for a disguise, but … I love the anonymity of it,” she said. “But actually it was Nick’s idea, ’cause we were going after different comedians, comediennes.”

The thing is that Nick was like, ‘Why don’t you just play the stalker?’ and I’m like, ‘I could do that ’cause I’ve been acting lately,’ I’ve done a lot of different things and I’m very proud of the work that I’ve done lately, but the thing is that this was the chance to work with Brett Ratner.”

First Black Super-Model, Naomi Sims Died Saturday @ 61 !!!!

a_cosmetics102

NEW YORK (AFP) – Naomi Sims, a black model who opened the white-dominated fashion industry to African Americans in the 1960s, has died, reports said Tuesday. She was 61.

Sims, sometimes dubbed the first black supermodel, died of cancer Saturday in Newark, New Jersey, the New York Times and TheFashionInsider.com reported.

Born in racially segregated Mississippi in 1948, Sims made history in August 1967 as the first black model on the cover of Fashion of the Times, a supplement to the New York Times.

She scored another first when she made the cover of Ladies Home Journal and went on to feature on the covers of Life Magazine and Cosmopolitan.

“Thanks to her proven personal initiatives as a true pioneer, she succeeded in creating a real place for black women in the modeling industry,” said Marcellous Jones, chief editor at TheFashionInsider.com.

Kanye West Rumored to Be Designing a Line for Gap!!!!

Kanye West Rumored to Be Designing a Line for Gap!!!!

20090731_kanye_560x375

Us Weekly broke the news a few weeks ago that Kanye West was interning at the Gap, where he toiled away until midnight, soaking up knowledge and real-world fashion-industry experience like the good little nonsensical, bright-purple-sweater-wearing sponge he is. Then a wily public-relations person tore through the media, denying the reports, which was sad, because we had begun to imagine Kanye as a design tour de force for not just Louis Vuitton customers and sneaker freaks, but the Everyman and the Everyman’s chinos. Finally, through Gap, we felt like we could relate to Kanye. But now, the story is back in the Chicago Tribune, which reports that Kanye is interning at Gap’s headquarters in Manhattan, working side-by-side with his buddy creative director Patrick Robinson. Friends don’t let friends intern for administrative assistants.

The Tribune also reports:

It has been speculated West is looking to launch a line of clothing for the Gap, but so far, those reports have not been confirmed.

Well, someone at Gap had better start confirming things, because this is exactly what that brand needs to start making money again. A ridiculous, gimmicky line designed and fronted by a celebrity along with, ideally, his stunning lady love, Amber Rose. If her smile and personal style don’t say “shop at Gap,” we don’t know what does.

Timberland Boots for Women

Timberland boots have been on the urban streetwear scene for a long time, and have been identified mostly with men’s footwear. Timberland Company announced recently that it will launch the Timberland Boot Company(TM) collection for women in Fall 2009. Since its successful debut in the UK in 2005 and its American introduction in 2007, the Timberland Boot Company has been a success with its audience. The new collection features modern silhouettes, inspired by the traditional menswear, are tailored with a feminine twist and delicate cues evoke stories in which shoes were mended and embellished over time.

Starting a “well worn” trend, the Fall collection of 2009 Timberland Boot Company(TM) for women is handcrafted with post-applied details such as whimsical stitches, pieces of ribbon, patches of leather on interesting fabric, all materials of a woman of the depression era uses to repair or update her shoes. In short, the “Depression-chic” collection is inspired by women who shaped and defined post-industrial America.

Christopher Pawlus, Timberland’s Senior Creative Director for Women’s stated:

“The Timberland Boot Company(TM) collection for women is designed to celebrate the creativity and individuality of the women who stepped out after fighting for and winning the right to vote in 1918. Whether they entered the workforce in a clerical or industrial role, or found their independence in teaching or through art, the women who inspired this collection were all strong, inventive and unique. The collection is designed to reflect the utilitarian, well-crafted footwear that was worn during this period, and the time and care women took for their shoes to make them last for years. We feel that this line strongly reintroduces how beautiful the Timberland® brand can be for women.”

The line consists of 12 shoes and boots in total, divided into 3 key collections:

Marge – inspired by career women in the cities, styles include Peep toes and Lace up heels feature simple stitching and delicate details and may be functioned as a casual office heel.

Lucille – inspired by the more rugged working women who work in factories and on assembly lines. Styles include Lace Up and Tall Boots, featuring toned-down leathers that appear worn and repaired, reflecting the utility and ingenuity of the era.

Gavie- inspired by the more artistic women. Styles include Kilties and Oxfords, with chic details, accents, unique leather combinations and understated stitching.

The line will be available in September 2009 with a price range of $170 – $340.
